Uno dice que 42 minutos son pocos, no nos alcanza para mucho creemos pero si sabemos utilizar cada instante, cada segundo de la mejor manera pueden salir tantas cosa como lo imaginemos o queramos. Al parecer estos alemanes de Eloy tomaron este presagio. Después de muchos años de ausencia, 15 desde la ultima edición de un disco de estudio, nos vuelven a deleitar con “Visonary” un EP compuesto por 7 canciones que al escucharlo nos remite a los años 70 donde Eloy marcaba su mejor etapa con discos como “Dawn”(1976), “Silent cries and mighty echoes”(1979) o el estupendo “Ocean”(1977) ya que al oir estos 42 minutos también teniendo una reminiscencia a los viejos discos de vinilo que tenían esa misma duración te posiciona imaginariamente en aquella época.
La banda actual esta formada por dos de sus miembros originales, Frank Bornemann, miembro fundador, guitarrista y vocalista, Klues – Peter Matziol bajista que ingreso en la formación en 1976 para el disco “Dawn” y por ultimo 2 nuevos integrantes Michael Gerlach y Bodo Schopf, tecladista y baterista respectivamente. Estos 4 músicos más varios invitados, como Tina Lux y Anke Renner como coristas, un flautista, un tecladista y un percusionista dan como resultados este hermoso disco, sin nada innovador pero trae muchos recuerdos de la mejor etapa del progresivo, los años 70.
El disco empieza con “The refuge” (4:54) El bajo y la batería dan comienzo a esta obra donde la característica voz de Frank dan la melodía justa al tema, la flauta de Volker Kuinke suena de fondo acompañado de los arreglos acústicos y eléctricos de la guitarra en diferentes pasajes del tema. El siguiente es “The Secret” (7:45) durante el primer minuto y medio la base de la batería de y bajo y los claros acordes de la guitarra nos dan la introducción del tema donde una voz media metalizada y sonando de fondo harán de coro a lo largo de la canción. La flauta vuelve resaltar y empieza a tener un poco mas de predominio el teclado y los sintetizadores, un tema melódico y fácil de escuchar. El Tercer tema “Age of Insanity” (7:54) una canción un poco mas Hard que los anteriores, los sintetizadores de Michael toman el predominio que siempre tuvieron en los discos de Eloy, dándole ese sonido sinfónico característico de la banda, sumada a la exquisita voz de Bornemann regalándonos a mitad de la canción un virtuoso solo de su guitarra. El tema central del álbum es “The Challenge” (6:44) arranca con los 2 miembros mas viejos de la banda demostrando lo que tiene cada uno, tanto Klues con su bajo y Frank con sus acordes, nuevamente el teclado juega el papel mas importante a lo largo del tema pero en este caso se resalta la compañía de los coros femeninos en los estribillos, una hermosa canción que nos deja bien predispuesto para el resto del disco. El quinto corte es “Summernight Symphony” (4.22) una bella canción corta en forma de balada, melódico y muy lindo para escucharlo solo sin necesidad de escuchar el resto del disco, otra vez las coros de Tina y Anke dan por sentada a la cancion mas linda del álbum. El anteúltimo tema es el mas largo de la obra “Mystery (The secret, part. 2)” (9:00) a pesar de no ser un disco enteramente conceptual, tiene ciertos pasajes que si, como son las melodías que se repiten a lo largo de los 7 temas, en esta canción le empieza a dar un cierre al disco, comenzando el extenso tema mas melódico terminándolo bien potente con la magia de los 4 músicos al máximo, expresándola con sus instrumentos, el bajo sonando súper potente junto con la batería, y los teclados dando su toque y sus melodías al tope en el final de la canción. Por ultimo el tema 7, “Thoughts” (1:22) Frank cierra el disco con un corto tema solo con su guitarra acústica y su voz finalizando el álbum.
Visonary no es un disco que va a estar entre los 10 mejores del genero del 2009 pero seguramente para aquellos fanáticos del genero va a a dejar una marca ya que una de las banda europeas que mas repercutió en lo sinfónico vuelva a dar a luz un hermoso disco que deja a la expectativa lo que pueda hacer estos Alemanes en el futuro.

One can say that 42 minutes are few minutes, but many of us believes that if we can use every second in the best way, they can leave each thing as we imagine or want. Apparently, these Germans of Eloy, took this omen. After many years of absence, 15 after its last studio record, it return to us to delight with “Visonary”, an EP with 7 songs that take us back to the 70’s, the best stage of Eloy, with records like “ Dawn” (1976), “Silent cries and mighty echoes” (1979) or the fantastic “Ocean” (1977). When we hear this 42 minutes, we have a reminiscence of old vinyl records with the same duration, and put you imaginary on this era.
The present band, has two of its original members, Frank Bornemann, founder member, guitar player and vocalist, Klues-Peter Matziol, bass player, that entrance to training in 1976, with “Dawn” and two new performers, Michael Gerlach y Bodo Schopf keyboard player and drummer respectively. These four musicians, along many guests like Tina Lux y Anke Renner as chorists, a flute player and a guitar player, and a percussionist, give us this beautiful record, innovator, with no doubt, but that take us to the best stage of progressive rock, the 70’s.
This record, begins with “The Refuge” (4:54). The bass and the drums begins this song where the characteristic voice of Frank gives the melody, Vulker Kuinke’s flute, sounds in the background along acoustic and electric arrangements of the guitar in different passages of this song. The next one is “The Secret” (7:45). During the first minute and a half, the bass, the drums and the clear chords of the guitar introduces us to a song where a metalized voice gives a chorus during all the song. The flute returns to stand up and begins with its predominance over the keyboard and synthetizers. It’s a melodic song, easy to hear. The third song “Age of insanity” (7:54) a “hardest” song, have predominance of Michael’s keyboards, predominance always present on Eloy’s songs, giving that typical symphonic sound of the band plus the exquisite voice of Bornemann giving us in the middle of the song a virtuoso solo of its guitar. The main song of the album is “The Challenge” (6:44) that begins with the two oldest members of the band showing us all that they have, Klues with its bass and Frank with its chords, and once again the keyboard has the most important part along all the song but in this case it is emphasized the female chorus on the refrains, a beautiful song that us it leaves predisposed well for the rest of the record. The fifth song is “Summernight Symphony” (4:22), a short song as a ballad, in melodic way , and we can hear it alone, without the rest of the songs of this record. Once again the chorus of Tina and Anke give us the most beautiful song in this record. The next song is the longest “Mistery (the secret part 2)” (9:00), Despite not to be a totally conceptual record, its has some passages that they are, like the melodies the repeats along the seven songs, in this song the record begins to close, beginning this long theme in a melodic way and ending it in a powerful way with the magic of this four musicians at his maximum, expressing this with their instruments, a super powerful bass along the battery and the keyboards with its touch and melodies at the top, in the end of this song . At he end, the seventh song, “Thoughts” (1:22) close this records with an acoustic guitar solo of Frank and its voice ending the record.
