Spock´s Beard "X" (2010)

Me declaro un ferviente seguidor de Spock's Beard desde sus origenes y entiendo que es una banda que combina a la perfección sonidos orientados al pop con el rock progresivo puro sin descuidar el saludable estilo moderno que le dan a cada tema. Este nuevo álbum no es la excepción.
Haciendo una revisión de cada uno de sus temas, vemos que el álbum arranca con "Edge of the In Between", mostrando un sonido que se puede catalogar como de la vieja escuela Génesis. Un tema donde se entremezcla los inconfundibles arreglos vocales de la banda con solos de guitarra, pasando por grandes temas como "The Emperor's New Clothes",
"Kamikaze" que es un tema abrasador, un rock progresivo que hace pensar en ELP donde abundan también de cambios y alteraciones de ritmo con una destacada labor de Ryo Okumoto en los teclados, principalmente en la primer parte del tema. También podemos citar "From the Darkness" que es sin dudas el tema que mas caracteriza a la banda. Son casi diecisiete minutos de duración donde alterna un sinfónico clásico con un poco de fusión.
"The Quiet House" que muestra una serie de cambios que no son drásticos cambios de ritmo, sino que luego de los primeros cuatro minutos se baja gradualmente la intensidad de los teclados para dar paso a un interesante arreglo de voces y así sucesivamente en el resto del tema.
"Their Names Escape Me", uno de mis temas favoritos del álbum que entremezcla la tranquilidad de una balada con un sonido muy similar a Génesis. "The Man Behind the Curtain" de un progresivo clásico y balada folk que sugieren a música celta. Y por último un tema de larga duración como "Jaws of Heaven" con sonidos que parten desde una guitarra acústica y voz con piano clásico pasando por un funky moderno y algunas cositas de fusión.
Un album interesante, en la línea de su lejano antecesor "Spock´s Beard" del 2006 u "Octane" del 2005.
Una banda que gratamente nos regala otra obra de las cuales nos tiene acostumbrados. Podré no ser tan objetivo, justamente por lo que arranco diciendo en el comentario, pero lo que no se le puede discutir a Spock´s Beard es que no son de lanzar al mercado obras de mediocres características. Para el que los sigue desde sus origenes como yo, o para los que estan empezando a conocerlos, "X" es un gran álbum.

I declare myself a fervent follower of Spock´s Beard since their origins, and I understand that it´s a band that combines to the perfection sounds oriented to the pop with pure progressive rock, without neglecting the healthy modern style in each of their themes. This new album it´s not ther exception.
Doing a review of ech of their themes, we see that the album begins with "Edge of the In between", showing us a sound that we can catalogue as Genesis old school. A song where its intermingle the unmistakable vocal souds of the band and the guitar solos, going on great themes as "The Emperor´s new clothes".
"Kamikaze" is a scorching song, a progressive theme that remind us to ELP, where there are many changes and alterations, and with the stand out work of Ryo Okumoto on keyboards, principally on the first part of the song.We can also mention "From the Darkness", with no doubts the song that caracterizes the band. They´re almost seventeen minutes long where there is some clasic progressive combined with some fusion.
"The Quiet House", that shows some changes that they aren´t drastic changes of rythm, After the first four minutes keyboard´s itnensity goes gradually down, and comes an interesting voices arrangement ang go on the rest of the song.
"Their Names Escaped Me" one of my favourites on this album, mixes the tranquility of ballad, with a similar sound about Genesis. "The Man behind the Curtain", of a clasic progressive and a folk ballad that remind us tu the Celtic music. And for the last, a long song called "Jaws of Heaven" with sound coming from an acoustic guitar and a voice and a classic piano going on a modern funky and some of fusion.
An interesting album, in the line of its far away album "Spock´s Beard" from 2006 or "Octane" from 2005,
A band that pleasingly give us a work to wich it has us used. Perhaps, I´m not so objective, but we can discuse that Spock´s Beard don´r give us a mediocre work. To who follow them since its origins, or for those who begins to know them, "X" its a great album.
